Title
Substitute resolution authorizing the Department of Employee Relations to renew its Worker’s Compensation self-insurance status with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Employee Relations to renew its self-insurance status for the City of Milwaukee worker’s compensation benefits with the State of Wisconsin.
...Body
Whereas, The Wisconsin Worker’s Compensation Act provides that employers covered by the Act either insure their liability with worker’s compensation insurance carriers, or be exempted (self-insured) from insuring liabilities with carriers and thereby assume responsibility for their own worker’s compensation risk and payment; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has chosen to be self-insured for providing worker’s compensation benefits to employees; and
Whereas, The State of Wisconsin requires employers that have self-insurance status for worker’s compensation programs renew their status every three years; and
Whereas, Pursuant to Chapter 340-1 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, the Department of Employee Relations has the authority to administer the worker’s compensation program and is responsible for renewing its self-insurance status; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Employee Relations is authorized to submit the required application documents along with a certified copy of this resolution for renewal of its worker’s compensation self-insurance status with the State of Wisconsin.
