Title
Resolution adopting the 2025 Milwaukee County Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Analysis
This resolution adopts the 2025 Milwaukee County Hazard Mitigation Plan as an update to and replacement of the City’s 2019 All Hazards Mitigation Plan. The plan identifies various potential hazards (primarily natural hazards such as weather events) that the County and City could face and describes potential mitigation actions. Adoption of the plan is required by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) for the City to be eligible for disaster assistance in the event of an actual disaster.
Body
Whereas, In December 2021, the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC), the City and the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) agreed to cooperatively prepare an update to the current (2017) Milwaukee County Comprehensive Hazard Mitigation Plan; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee previously adopted the City of Milwaukee 2019 All Hazards Mitigation Plan; and
Whereas, SEWRPC collaborated with Milwaukee County, local municipalities, and local emergency management partners to prepare this 2025 Milwaukee County Hazard Mitigation Plan that incorporates and updates the 2019 City of Milwaukee All Hazards Mitigation Plan; and
Whereas, FEMA requires that the City of Milwaukee adopt a Hazard Mitigation Plan to be eligible for various federal disaster relief programs; and
Whereas, FEMA has confirmed that the 2025 plan meets federal requirements, and can be adopted; and
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that adoption of the 2025 Milwaukee County Hazard Mitigation Plan, a copy of which is attached to this file, is approved.
