* ANALYSIS - This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to apply for a Flood Hazard Mitigation Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency
BODY:
Whereas, Southeastern Wisconsin Counties experienced flooding on June 21, 1997 due to severe storms; and Whereas, A Presidential Disaster Declaration was issued in Southeastern Wisconsin Counties, which made funding available for mitigation activities through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works submitted a preapplication for the grant program on September 5, 1997 to the State of Wisconsin Division of Emergency Management for floodproofing homes, and
 
Whereas, After review of the initial information in the preapplication the City of Milwaukee has been invited to submit a formal application for the grant program, and Whereas, It would be in the best interests of the City of Milwaukee to apply for the grant program and utilize any funding obtained to floodproof City of Milwaukee homes, and
 
Whereas, The 12.5% local share for the grant program shall be funded by participating home owners; now therefore, be it
 
Resolved, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee hereby authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to submit a formal application for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding; and, be it Further Resolved, That if the grant is received, further authority will be requested to accept the grant and expend the funds provided by the grant.
