Title

An ordinance relating to penalties for operating electric scooters on public sidewalks.

Analysis

This ordinance increases the forfeiture for operating an electric scooter on a public sidewalk from between $10 and $20 to between $100 and $200. The ordinance does not modify the existing prohibition on operating electric scooters on public sidewalks.

 

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

 

Part 1. Section 102-13 of the code is amended to read:

 

102-13. Penalties.  Any person violating any of the provisions of s. 102-1 may upon conviction thereof be subject to a forfeiture within the range of forfeitures provided by statute for violation of the section. For a conviction for violating any of the provisions of s. 102-7-1 to 6, a person may be subject to a forfeiture of not less than $10 nor more than $20 >>,except that a person operating an electric scooter in violation of s. 102-7-1-a shall be subject to a forfeiture of not less than $100 nor more than $200<<. Any person violating the provisions of s. 102-7-7 may upon conviction thereof be subject to a forfeiture of not less than $20 nor more than $40 for the first offense and not less than $50 nor more than $100 for the 2nd or subsequent conviction within a year.
