This resolution establishes a friendly exchange relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Chasse-sur-Rhône, France.
Body
Whereas, Chasse-sur-Rhône is a small municapility with a population of 6,700 inhabitants, with a unique connection to the city of Milwaukee; and
Whereas, The St. Joan of Arc Chapel, which is currently on the Marquette University campus, was built around 1420 in Chasse-sur-Rhône before being dismantled and shipped to Milwaukee in the 1920’s; and
Whereas, Friendly exchange relationships are less formal than sister cities relationships, and can eventually lead to the establishment of a sister cities relationship; and
Whereas, A friendly exchange relationship between the two municipalities would promote the shared heritage and history of the St. Joan of Arc Chapel, while also promoting intercultural exchange and community engagement; and
Whereas, A friendly exchange relationship would also provide opportunities in the form of youth exchanges, language learning, education and professional training, and athletic exchanges; and
Whereas, Representatives from both cities plan to sign a memorandum of understanding in relation to this friendly exchange relationship; and
Whereas, There is local community support for this prospective friendly exchange program through Alliance Française de Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the establishment of a friendly exchange program between the City of Milwaukee and the municipality of Chasse-sur-Rhône, France, is authorized; and, be it
