This resolution authorizes the granting of $2,000 from the Economic Development Committee Fund, to Caribbean Festivals, Inc., for the purpose of underwriting costs associated with start-up and marketing of the first Caribbean Festival to be held August 13-15, 1999.
BODY:
Whereas, Caribbean Festivals, Inc. will host the first large-scale Caribbean festival in Wisconsin on August 13-15, 1999; and
Whereas, This year is the first year that a Caribbean Festival will be held in Milwaukee; and
Whereas, Caribbean Festival will be held in Pere Marquette Park and will attract many visitors to this area and the nearby Riverwalk; and
Whereas, This Festival will highlight Milwaukee's growing Caribbean population and will focus on the cultural messages and the historical roots of the music, art, folklore and religion of the Caribbean; and
Whereas, Caribbean Festival will be free of charge; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a grant of $2,000 be made to Caribbean Festivals, Inc. for the purpose of underwriting costs associated with start-up and marketing of the first Caribbean Festival; and, be it
Further Resolved, That those funds shall be provided from the Economic Development Committee Fund (account number 01-032-8001).
