Title
Resolution relating to the Milwaukee Fire Department’s application for the “Community Involvement Project” grant from the Department of Health & Human Services - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) to apply for a grant amount totaling $133,360 from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention through the Programs for the Prevention of Fire-Related Injuries grant ($133,360 grantor share/ $0 City share). The funds will be used to support the Milwaukee Fire Department Community Involvement Project - a new fire prevention education initiative.
Body
Whereas, The Department of Health & Human Services - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers funds through the Programs for the Prevention of Fire-Related Injuries, and the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) is eligible for the funds; and
Whereas, The MFD would utilize this grant to build upon its fire prevention education programs through the establishment of a new community-based program focused on reducing the number of residential fire-related injuries and fatalities in high-risk communities; and
Whereas, The MFD would utilize the funds to support these efforts over the five-year period of the grant, establishing two fire prevention safety communities per year for a total of ten communities; and
Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department has identified two high-risk communities within the 7th Aldermanic district for the first year of this grant program and has developed a program implementation plan; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Fire Department is authorized to apply for a grant from the Department of Health & Human Services - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the “Community Involvement Project”.
