- ANALYSIS - This resolution allocates $40,000 from the Riverfront and Other Downtown Planning and Improvements Fund (PR01880000). These funds are to be used along with $60,000 from the Milwaukee Riverwalk project budget to complete Highland Plaza East, a public open space situated at the east terminus of the new Highland Avenue pedestrian bridge across the Milwaukee River.


BODY:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee and Business Improvement District #15 have together funded and constructed the downtown riverwalk system; and

Whereas, The original riverwalk project extending from Clybourn Avenue on the south to the Schlitz Park office complex on the north is nearing completion; and

Whereas, One remaining element of the overall project yet to be completed is Highland Plaza East located at the eastern terminus of the new Highland Avenue pedestrian bridge; and

Whereas, The plaza site is a former City of Milwaukee surface parking lot; and

Whereas, The initial riverwalk plan assumed that the plaza would be completed in conjunction with redevelopment of the Rojahn Florist warehouse building immediately to the plaza's south; and

Whereas, Redevelopment of the warehouse is now not expected in the near future; and

Whereas, The plaza must be completed so that the riverwalk's continuity is not disrupted and so that the existing unattractive remnant of the former surface parking does not detract from the overall riverwalk system; and

Whereas, A total of $60,000 is available within the riverwalk project budget to develop the plaza; and
