Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to renew its Operation Ceasefire Program Grant from the Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, in the amount of $135,221 with a city share of $57,221 and a grantor share of $78,000. The purpose of the project is to achieve maximum coordination and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to identify, investigate and prosecute felons in possession of firearms, and those individuals, organizations, and sources of firearms who knowingly and willingly facilitate the unlawful acquisition of firearms.
Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for renewal of grant funds from the Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for an Operation Ceasefire Grant; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 10/01/2000 to 9/30/2001 would cost $135,221 of which $57,221 (42%) would be provided by the city and $78,000 (58%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is authorized and that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File No. 940843; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2001 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: "Operation Ceasefire Grant":
