This resolution urges the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors to designate the City of Milwaukee's Public Safety Answering Point (the Police Department's Data and Communications Center) as the primary Public Safety Answering Point for 911 calls placed by wireless phone in Milwaukee County.
Body
Whereas, It is vitally important that users of wireless phones receive emergency services as promptly as wire-line 911 callers; and

Whereas, Currently, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department receives a large share of wireless 911 calls, even though it has no firefighting equipment or ambulances; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee Public Safety Answering Point ("PSAP"), located at the Police Department's Data and Communications Center (3rd District police station, 2333 N. 49th Street), has the infrastructure, equipment, and technological and staff capacity to receive and process 911 calls placed by wireless phone from locations throughout Milwaukee County; and

Whereas, The computer-aided dispatch system in the Data and Communications Center is capable of pinpointing the locations of persons placing calls by wireless phone; and

Whereas, The majority of 911 calls placed by wireless phone in Milwaukee County are transferred to or ultimately serviced by the City of Milwaukee's PSAP; and

Whereas, Consolidation of wireless 911 call activities at the City's Data and Communications Center would produce significant cost savings for Milwaukee County, which would be able to reduce its own PSAP staffing (Sheriff's Department); and
