Resolution directing the Department of Administration - Intergovernmental Relations Division to remove Common Council-sponsored recommendations from the City’s annual State Legislative Package after each four-year election cycle.
Analysis
This resolution directs the Department of Administration - Intergovernmental Relations Division to remove Common Council-sponsored recommendations from the annual State Legislative Package after each four-year election cycle. Common Council members who wish certain items to remain in the State Legislative Package shall inform the Director of Intergovernmental Relations of those items at each four-year review.
Body
Whereas, Members of the Common Council have an interest in having certain State statutes amended; and
Whereas, The City’s State Legislative Package (Common Council File Number 180898) currently has more than 145 such items; and
Whereas, Several of the items have been in the Legislative Package for multiple election cycles and were placed in the Package by members of the Common Council who are no longer in office; and
Whereas, It is appropriate for Council members to revisit items from past Legislative Packages to determine whether those items continue to address the needs of their constituents and the City generally; and
Whereas, After lobbying efforts have been undertaken by the Intergovernmental Relations Division without success, it may be appropriate to remove those items from the Package so as to not overburden the lobbying team and to focus efforts on more promising items; and
Whereas, If Council members seek to have certain files remain in the Package, they may do so by requesting those items remain; now, therefore, be it
