Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a 2024-2027 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry Inflation Reduction Act grant - “Empowering Community Investment in the Urban Tree Canopy”.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works - Operations Division (Forestry Section) to accept and fund a 2024-2027 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) Urban Forestry Inflation Reduction Act grant in the amount of up to $500,000 with no matching fund requirement. The purpose of the grant is to perform tree planting and maintenance, with limited hazardous tree removal and replacement on owner-occupied private property in Milwaukee’s highest-need census tracts.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from WDNR to; and
Whereas, The operation of this grant from 9/2024 to 12/31/2027 would cost $500,000 of which, $500,000 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Department of Public Works shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2024 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled “Empowering Community Investment in the Urban Tree Canopy”:
