This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department to apply for, accept and fund a Hazardous Materials Emergency Planning Sub-Grant. Application is to Milwaukee County. The grant funds, in the amount of $10,050, will be used for the Fire Department's "Computerized Record Management of Emergency Off-Site Planning Facilities" project to be undertaken from January 1, 1998 through September 30, 1998. This resolution also authorizes the City Comptroller to create the revenue and expenditure accounts necessary for this project and to make the necessary fund transfers.


BODY:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for a Hazardous Materials Emergency Planning (HMEP) Sub-Grant; and

Whereas, By participating in this grant program, the City will augment its preparedness for dealing with hazardous materials releases and upgrade the information available to the Fire Department when such emergencies occur; and

Whereas, The purpose of HMEP grants is to strengthen the ability of hazardous materials teams to comply with NFPA 472 and OSHA 1910.120; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant project from January 1, 1998 through September 30, 1998 would cost $15,644, of which $5,594 (36%) would be provided by the City and $10,050 (64%) would be provided by the grantor; and

Whereas, A $10,050 HMEP grant to the Milwaukee Fire Department will have the endorsement of the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, Division of Emergency Government; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Fire Department is authorized and directed to apply for and accept, through Milwaukee County, a Hazardous Materials Emergency Planning Sub-Grant to fund the Department's "Computerized Record Manageme...
