Resolution authorizing the Department of Public Works to enter into an agreement accepting the donation of 250 trees from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and executing a post installation Maintenance Covenant with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure Services Division, to accept a donation of 250 trees from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District for planting in the B Line Park along the Beerline Trail from West Capitol Drive to West Keefe Avenue. The resolution also authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to execute a post installation Maintenance Covenant with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District.
Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is responsible for collecting and treating wastewater from local sewerage systems; and

Whereas, During wet weather events, stormwater enters local sewerage systems, increasing the volume of wastewater that MMSD must convey and treat. At such times, stormwater also directly enters surface waters, carrying pollution into waterways and increasing the risk of flooding; and

Whereas, Planting trees strengthens the natural processes that support managing stormwater in the sewer service area and reduce the risk of flooding; and

Whereas, Natural flood management captures and holds stormwater where it falls, reducing the volume of stormwater in the sewerage system and the amount of pollution discharged to surface waters; and
Whereas, Section 304-24 of the Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation, and expenditure of contributions received by the City; and
Whereas, MMSD through a United States Forest Service grant agrees to donate 250 trees to the City of Milwaukee to be planted in the B Line Park; and
