Title

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works – Buildings and Fleet Division to accept up to $100,000 in private contributions, including play equipment and material, for the reconstruction of the City of Milwaukee's Pulaski Street Playground.

Body
Whereas, The Pulaski Street Playground has an obsolete children's play area dating from 1975; and

Whereas, The East Village Association, in the vicinity of the Pulaski Street Playground, is coordinating an effort to revitalize the neighborhood surrounding the playground and views the upgrading of the Pulaski Street Playground in 2001 as consistent with their neighborhood revitalization efforts essential to improving the quality of life in the area; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works – Buildings and Fleet Division estimates the total cost of upgrading the Pulaski Street Playground, including removal of the existing asphalt playground and children's play area, installation of a new play area, benches, walks, and landscaped area to be $185,000; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works – Buildings and Fleet Division, in its 2001 Recreational Facilities Capital Improvement Program has budgeted $50,000 for this project; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works – Buildings and Fleet Division has received an additional $40,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds for this project; and

Whereas, The East Village Association has committed to raising up to $100,000 towards the playground improvements and is aware of individuals and organizations who are interested in donating funds for the upgrading of the Pulaski Street Playground; and
