Title
Resolution relating to the acceptance of funds from Milwaukee County for the expansion of the City’s ShotSpotter Program and the expenditure of funds to be reimbursed by greater than anticipated revenue.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department (“MPD”) to accept funds from Milwaukee County in the amount of $175,000 for the expansion of the MPD’s ShotSpotter Program. Currently, ShotSpotter covers approximately three (3) square miles. This money, in addition to the $175,000 being provided by State of Wisconsin, will expand this to approximately 11 square miles, covering both the central city areas of the north and south sides of the City of Milwaukee. County locations that will be included in this expansion include; North Side - Clinton Rose, to Washington, Moody, Johnsons, Carver, Lindbergh, Tiefenthaler, Atkinson, Meaux, and Sherman parks, and the Lincoln Creek Parkway. South Side - Walker Square, Clarke, and Kosciuszko parks.
Whereas, Milwaukee County has included as part of its 2014 Adopted Budget, $175,000 to provide money for the expansion of the City of Milwaukee’s ShotSpotter Program; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee will take responsibility for the on-going operating costs beginning in 2015; and
Whereas, Section 304-91 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances establishes procedural guidelines related to the expenditure of funds to be reimbursed by greater than anticipated revenues; and
Whereas, The timing of receipt of these funds did not occur until after 2014 budget adoption; and
Whereas, The MPD will be expending funds for an equal amount of said revenue for the purposes contained herein; and
Whereas, The City Comptroller has certified greater than anticipated revenue in the amount of $175,000, pursuant to s. 304-91,
