This resolution directs the Department of Administration - Intergovernmental Relations Division to seek introduction and passage of state campaign finance legislation prohibiting a candidate for political office or a member of his or her immediate family from being designated as the candidate's campaign treasurer.

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is committed to restoring integrity and the public trust in its elected officials; and

Whereas, The State of Wisconsin campaign finance law does not prohibit a candidate for political office or a member of his or her immediate family from being designated campaign treasurer; and

Whereas, Restrictions on who may be designated campaign treasurer may prevent the misuse of campaign funds; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration - Intergovernmental Relations Division is directed to seek introduction and passage of state campaign finance legislation prohibiting a candidate for political office or a member of his or her immediate family from being designated as the candidate's campaign treasurer.
