Title
Resolution authorizing application of a 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Federal Emergency Management Agency by the Fire Department.
 
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Fire Department to apply for a 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Federal Emergency Management Agency.  This resolution does not authorize the expenditure of City funds, and if an award is granted, the Fire Department will make separate application for acceptance of the grant award.
 
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible to apply for grant funds from the Department of Homeland Security - Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grant for assisting the Fire Department in funding various projects; and
 
Whereas, The Common Council adopted resolution 110621 on September 30, 2011 authorizing the Fire Department to apply for a FY 2011 grant from the agency; and
 
Whereas, As of April 13, 2012, the agency received 16,941 grant applications and funded only 1,734 albeit rejecting the Milwaukee Fire Department application; and
 
Whereas, The FY 2012 grant program opens June 11, 2012, operates 12-months from the award date and would be funded by the grantor (80%) and the City (20%) in the form of cash match; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Fire Department is authorized to apply for a 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist the department in funding various projects.
