TITL:
A substitute resolution authorizing the acceptance and disbursement of $533,184 to the Milwaukee Foundation.
ANLS:
This resolution would authorize the city to serve as a conduit for the receipt and disbursement of federal funds totaling $533,184. These resources will be made available through the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). Once received, these funds will be disbursed immediately to the Milwaukee Foundation for purposes of covering expenses incurred by the Safe and Sound program.
BODY:
Whereas, The Youth Crime and Violence task force has recommended a comprehensive, proactive, collaborative plan to reduce crime, and provide safe positive opportunities for youth development; and
Whereas, The task force emphasized a balanced approach to tough law enforcement and prevention as the most effective anti-crime strategy; and
Whereas, The Safe and Sound program was designed to implement these goals by offering after-school and weekend Safe Havens that provide educational, social, and recreational activities for youth; and
Whereas, It is in the city's interest to serve as a conduit for the receipt and disbursement of $533,184 in federal funds (through the Office of National Drug Control Policy) for the Safe and Sound program; now therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the city is authorized to receive and disburse $533,184 to the Milwaukee Foundation for the Safe and Sound program; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Office of the Comptroller is authorized to process the receipt and disbursement of funds.
