Title
Resolution authorizing the execution of a Ground Lease by and between the City of Milwaukee, on behalf of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors, and Journey House, Inc.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes execution of a Ground Lease to allow construction of the Journey House-Longfellow Family Learning Center on the Longfellow School property, located at 1021 South 21st Street.
Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee Board of School Directors (“MPS”) and Journey House, Inc. (“Journey House”), a Wisconsin non-profit corporation, have entered into an Amended and Restated Longfellow School Journey House Joint Project Development Agreement to facilitate construction of an addition to the Longfellow School, located at 1021 South 21st Street; and
Whereas, Pursuant to the Amended and Restated Development Agreement, MPS has approved a Ground Lease to Journey House to allow Journey House to construct and own the building addition; and
Whereas, Legal title to MPS real property is held in the name of the City of Milwaukee in trust for MPS; and
Whereas, The execution of the Ground Lease by the City requires adoption of a resolution by the Common Council authorizing and approving such conveyance; and
Whereas, The Common Council desires to approve the Ground Lease upon the terms set forth in the Amended and Restated Development Agreement and substantially in the form attached to this Common Council file; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the attached Ground Lease by and between the City of Milwaukee, on behalf of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors, and Journey House, Inc., is approved; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the proper City officers are directed to execute the Ground Lease on behalf of the City of Milwaukee.
