Title

Substitute resolution amending the agreement between the Health Department and Medical College of Wisconsin to carry out the 414Life violence interruption program and other violence prevention efforts.

 

Analysis

This substitute resolution authorizes the Health Department to extend an existing service agreement with the Medical College of Wisconsin to hire, host, and manage the personnel, supplies, and services

                     

Body

Whereas, the City of Milwaukee and its residents face significant challenges due to interpersonal violence, including homicide, shootings, and domestic and intimate partner violence; and

 

Whereas, 414Life, also known as the Blueprint for Peace, is a community developed action plan to reduce violence and increase resilience in Milwaukee; and

 

Whereas, a key strategy of the Blueprint is “proactive prevention efforts” to curb violence before it happens; and

 

Whereas, the 414Life violence interruption initiative was established to provide peer-driven, evidence-based programs to reduce interpersonal violence and prevent escalation of interpersonal and group conflict; and

 

Whereas, the Milwaukee Health Department and its Office of Violence Prevention have an existing partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) to hire, train, manage and report on the outcomes and performance of violence interrupters; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the appropriate City officials are authorized to enter into an amended agreement substantially similar to the one attached; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Health Department is authorized to expend from its available budgeted funds sums for specified purposes as indicated in the agreement.
