Title
Substitute resolution relating to the return of Community Development Block Grant funds from the Social Development Commission and the Opportunities Industrialization Center of Greater Milwaukee and the awarding of funding to the Running Rebels for recreational activities.
Analysis
This resolution approves the return, to the City of Milwaukee, of $24,000 in unspent 2005 CDBG dollars from the Social Development Commission and $25,000 in unspent 2005 CDBG dollars from the Opportunities Industrialization Center of Greater Milwaukee. These monies had been awarded to fund basketball programs to be operated by these two organizations. This resolution further approves the awarding of the $49,000 in returned funds to the Running Rebels for the purpose of funding a summer basketball league and a year-round “in-the-paint” basketball league.
Body
Whereas, The Common Council of the City of Milwaukee has previously approved the awarding of $24,000 in 2005 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to the Social Development Commission for operation of a summer basketball league; and

Whereas, The Social Development Commission has indicated that it does not intend to conduct this basketball program; and

Whereas, The Common Council has also previously awarded $25,000 in 2005 CDBG funding to the Opportunities Industrialization Center of Greater Milwaukee for the purpose of operating a year-round “in-the-paint” basketball league; and

Whereas, The Opportunities Industrialization Center ceased operations in early 2005 and is, therefore, unavailable to implement and maintain this basketball program; and

Whereas, The Community and Economic Development Committee recommends awarding the $24,000 previously awarded to the Social Development Commission to the Running Rebels, an organization which is willing and able to operate a summer basketball league; and
