Title
Substitute Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to permanently close South 15th Street from West Burnham Street to West Forest Home Avenue.
Analysis
The Common Council previously authorized closure of South 15th Street between West Burnham Street and West Forest Home Avenue on a temporary basis to address problems related to child crossing safety at Forest Home School, and to evaluate the impact of the closure on pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area. After the successful completion of a trial closure of this roadway, this Resolution would authorize the Commissioner of Public Works to permanently close the roadway.
Body
Whereas, Traffic congestion and circulation problems related to closely spaced intersections on the street triangle created by the intersection of West Forest Home Avenue, West Burnham Street and South 15th Street had previously made it difficult for the school crossing guard at Forest Home School to control traffic, and made it difficult for school children to cross these streets at school arrival and dismissal times; and

Whereas, The Common Council approved Resolution File Number 040254 on July 7, 2004 which authorized the Commissioner of Public works to implement the closure of South 15th Street between West Burnham Street and West Forest Home Avenue on a temporary basis to evaluate the effectiveness of the closure in addressing these concerns; and

Whereas, Following completion of a successful trial period, this closure is recommended to be made permanent; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to permanently close the segment of South 15th Street from West Burnham Street to West Forest Home Avenue.
