Title
Resolution authorizing the sale of City-owned vacant lots to Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, Inc., to create building sites for its 2008 housing program, in the 6th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the sale of multiple Neighborhood Properties to a buyer pursuant to Section 304-49-7, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances.
Body
Whereas, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, Inc., (“Habitat”), a community-based organization, desires to build 10 single-family homes that will be sold to qualified owner-occupants for its 2008 housing program; and

Whereas, Habitat has submitted an unsolicited Offer to Purchase the following City-owned vacant lots for $1 each, as summarized in a Land Disposition Report, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File:

Whereas, Section 304-49-7 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances allows the City of Milwaukee (“City”) to accept unsolicited offers to purchase when the City receives fair compensation, whether monetary or non-monetary; and

Whereas, The sale of these lots will allow Habitat to continue to provide affordable homeownership opportunities to low and moderate-income families and will provide the City with fair compensation through additional tax base and housing opportunities; and

Whereas, The Department of City Development (“DCD”) recommends sale of these lots with closing contingent on DCD approval of final site and building plans and evidence of financing; and
