Title
Resolution relating to Milwaukee Police Department acquisition and exchange of motor vehicles acquired from citizens in conjunction with criminal investigations.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Chief of Police to accept titles of motor vehicles, for acquisition or exchange for vehicles more appropriate for police work, acquired from citizens who wish to cooperate with the Milwaukee Police Department in lieu of a civil forfeiture action.

The resolution also requires the Chief of Police to provide the Common Council with a quarterly report regarding the acquisition and exchange of motor vehicles acquired from citizens who wish to cooperate with the Milwaukee Police Department in lieu of a civil forfeiture action.
Body
Whereas, There is a need to develop a policy whereby the Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to accept titles of motor vehicles offered by citizens who wish to cooperate with the Milwaukee Police Department in lieu of a civil forfeiture action; and

Whereas, Motor vehicles acquired from citizens who wish to cooperate with the Milwaukee Police Department may be appropriate for police work; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Chief of Police is authorized to accept titles of motor vehicles acquired from citizens who wish to cooperate with the Milwaukee Police Department in lieu of a civil forfeiture action; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Chief of Police may retain vehicles acquired from citizens or exchange those vehicles for vehicles more appropriate for police work; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Chief of Police shall provide the Common Council with a quarterly report regarding the acquisition and exchange of motor vehicles acquired from citizens who wish to cooperate with the Milwaukee Police Department in lieu of a civil forfeiture action.
