Analysis
This ordinance provides for a monthly reimbursement payment of $50 for common council member cellular telephone services for members who elect to use personal cellular phones in lieu of those issued by the city. The reimbursement amount shall be adjusted annually on the basis of the cellular telephone services component of the consumer price index.
Body
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:
Part 1. Section 350-189 of the code is renumbered 350-189-1.
Part 2. Section 350-189-2 of the code is created to read:
350-189. Telephone Service Reimbursement.
2. A common council member may be reimbursed for cellular telephone service expenses in lieu of the use of a city-issued cellular phone. Common council members opting for reimbursement for cellular telephone services expenses incurred in the discharge of their official duties shall be entitled to a monthly reimbursement payment of $50. The monthly reimbursement payment shall be indexed annually on the basis of the cellular telephone services component of the Consumer Price Index's U.S. City Average for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The payment shall be increased or decreased, rounded to the nearest dollar, based on the annual change in the cellular telephone services component.
