Title
Substitute resolution authorizing expenditures from the Development Fund for public improvement modifications in connection with the Bucyrus International, Inc. Project at the Chase Avenue Commerce Center, 3073 South Chase Avenue.
Analysis
This substitute resolution authorizes a grant to Bucyrus International in the maximum amount of $35,000 for the purposes of widening the median cut on South Chase Avenue, including relocation of trees and existing light poles, in order to ship the large castings and other mining equipment components to be manufactured, dissembled and welded at Bucyrus' expansion location at 3073 South Chase Avenue.

Whereas, Bucyrus International, Inc. (“Bucyrus”) is one of the leading manufacturers of large scale excavation equipment used in surface mining and its machines are used by customers mining copper, coal, oil sands, iron or other minerals; and
Whereas, Bucyrus is headquartered in South Milwaukee and has currently expanded into the Chase Avenue Commerce Center at 3073 South Chase Avenue; and
Whereas, Bucyrus is currently upgrading and modifying approximately 90,000 square feet at this location and plans to add 50 welding positions, plus an additional 30-50 support positions as it continues to grow; and
Whereas, The average estimated wage for the additional welding positions is $22.00 per hour, plus benefits including health insurance and pension; and
Whereas, In order to ship the products manufactured at this facility to its headquarters in South Milwaukee, the median cut in South Chase Avenue needs to be expanded and the cost of this work is estimated at $35,000 as set forth in the Median Modifications Budget, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File; and
