This resolution appropriates $700,000 from the 1998 Common Council Contingent Fund to the Remission of Taxes Fund, Special Purpose Account No. 01-086-8001 for refunds ordered by the local Board of Review.
BODY:
Whereas, As a result of action to be taken by the Board of Review against certain parcels of real estate, the Assessment Commissioner's Office projects a deficit of $700,000 in the Special Purpose Account, Remission of Taxes Fund (Account Number 01-086-8001); and
Whereas, No funds are available to transfer from other accounts in its budget appropriations; and
Whereas, This project deficit is largely due to uncontrollable circumstances, such as, reductions by the Board of Review under Section 70.47(9) of the Wisconsin Statutes; claims filed under Section 74.35 of the Wisconsin Statutes; and corrections of assessments under Section 70.43 of the Wisconsin Statutes; and
Whereas, Under Section 70.511(2)(b) of the Wisconsin Statutes, claims for the refund of taxes filed by taxpayers shall be payable by the municipality; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that $700,000 be, and hereby is, appropriated from the 1998 Common Council Contingent Fund (Account No. 09-910-8000) to the Remission of Taxes Fund, Special Purpose Account No. 01-086-8001.
