TITLE

ANALYSIS
This resolution authorizes the proper City Officers to set up funding and construct the Emmber Lane Water Quality Project with a Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (WCMP) grant. The total cost of the project is $250,000 with a grantor share of $100,000 (40%) and a local share match of $150,000 (60%). The local share of $100,000 is budgeted in the City’s 2008 Sewer Maintenance Fund with the remaining $50,000 coming from other non-City sources, as indicated in Common Council File 061404. The purpose of the grant is to aid in funding for the construction of a plan to prevent the accumulation of debris in the Menomonee River at the Emmber Lane Bridge.
BODY
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee along with a variety of local organizations and businesses continues its efforts to revitalize the Menomonee Valley; and

Whereas, As part of the revitalization effort, the City and the local organizations and businesses intend to remedy a persistent debris accumulation problem on the Menomonee River at Emmber Lane; and

Whereas, The cost of implementing a plan to eliminate the debris problem is approximately $250,000; and

Whereas, The Commissioner of Public Works applied for and accepted a WCMP grant for $100,000 as authorized by Common Council File 061404, to be applied towards the total cost of the project; and

Whereas, Friends of Milwaukee’s Rivers will contribute $27,500 of the $150,000 local match; and

Whereas, The Menomonee Valley BID will also contribute up $22,500 in the event that total construction costs exceed the City’s available funds; and
