Title
Resolution relating to acceptance and execution and funding of a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant for the rehabilitation of an existing bioretention facility, and test the performance of several pilot soil amendments located near North 26th Street (extended) and West Canal Street, in the 8th Aldermanic District.

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure Services Division, to accept and fund a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant for the rehabilitation of a bioretention facility, and test the performance of several pilot soil amendments located near North 26th Street (extended) and West Canal Street in the City of Milwaukee in the amount of $350,000.

Whereas, In conjunction with the reconstruction of West Canal Street, and during or around 2006, a 1-acre bioretention facility and stormwater pump system was constructed north of the intersection of North 26th Street (extended) and West Canal Street; and

Whereas, Said bioretention facility receives storm water runoff from approximate 26 acres of West Canal Street and adjacent parcels; and

Whereas, Green infrastructure, such as bioretention facilities, reduces the volume of storm water in the sewer system and the amount of pollutants discharged to surface waters; and

Whereas, Said bioretention facility is no longer functioning as originally designed and is need of rehabilitation; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works desires to perform said rehabilitation and additionally improve the performance of the facility and provide an opportunity to install multiple soil profiles and soil additives and enhancements to test their performance in removing pollutants; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works applied for and received a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to help fund the proposed rehabilitation and performance improvement of the bioretention faci...
