Substitute resolution relating to renaming the Nature Center at Hawthorn Glen, 1130 North 60th Street, after former Alderman Martin E. Schreiber.

This resolution renames the Nature Center at the Hawthorn Glen Environmental Center located at 1130 North 60th Street as the Martin E. Schreiber Nature Center.

BODY:

Whereas, Martin E. Schreiber served with distinction as Alderman for 32 years from 1944 to 1976; and

Whereas, Martin E. Schreiber was elected by the Common Council to serve as its President from 1956 to 1968; and

Whereas, Martin E. Schreiber passed away on January 29, 1997, at the age of 92; and

Whereas, It is appropriate to memorialize the contributions of exemplary leaders in the naming of public buildings and structures; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council authorizes the renaming of the Nature Center at the Hawthorn Glen Environmental Center, located at 1130 North 60th Street, as the Martin E. Schreiber Nature Center; and be it

Further Resolved, That the proper City departments are authorized and directed to complete the building signage and installation of a commemorative plaque; and be it

Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works shall submit a report to the Finance and Personnel Committee and the Common Council within 30 days of the date of completion of the project delineating all costs related to the design and installation of the plaque, including but not limited to:

1. The total project cost;

2. Actual dollar amounts charged to specific account numbers within the various departments' accounts for costs related to materials, design, and labor.
