Title:
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Homeland Security Port Security Grant (Police Department).

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Homeland Security Port Security Grant from the US Department of Homeland Security, Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness in the amount of $397,422, with a city share of $0 and a grantor share of $397,422. The purpose of this project is to enhance the overall capabilities of the Milwaukee Police Department’s Harbor Patrol Unit and Dive Team to provide more effective public safety services in and around the waterways of the City of Milwaukee.
Body:
Whereas, Under CFDA 97.056, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the US Department of Homeland Security, and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 9/01/05 to 2/28/08 would cost $397,422, which would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the US Department of Homeland Security, Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council file 030712; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2005 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: Homeland Security Port Security Grant.
