Title
Substitute resolution authorizing and directing the erection of traffic signs in certain areas designated as prohibited for cruising.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to erect signs reading "Cruising Prohibited 8 p.m. to 5 a.m." along 3 sections of streets currently prohibited for cruising by s. 101-20.5-1-b of the code. The streets are:
1. West Capitol Drive from North 27th Street to North 60th Street.
2. West Fond du Lac Avenue from North Roosevelt Drive to West Burleigh Street.
3. North Sherman Boulevard from West Burleigh Street to West Capitol Drive.
Body
Whereas, Unnecessary driving or "cruising" has become a chronic problem in several areas of the City; and
Whereas, In addition to traffic congestion, safety hazards and noise, cruising can generate additional problems such as loitering, disorderly behavior and even violence, all of which diminish the quality of life to which all Milwaukee residents are entitled; and
Whereas, In recent years, certain sections of the City have become unusually attractive to cruisers and are in particular need of measures to abate this activity; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is authorized and directed to erect traffic signs in certain areas designated as prohibited for cruising, namely West Capitol Drive from North 27th Street to North 60th Street, West Fond du Lac Avenue from North Roosevelt Drive to West Burleigh Street and North Sherman Boulevard from West Burleigh Street to West Capitol Drive; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the installation of these signs will be paid for out of the 2002 budget of the Department of Public Works - Infrastructure Services Division.
