Title
Resolution determining that certain Milwaukee Public Schools’ properties are underutilized and directing the Department of City Development to market the properties, in the 6th, 10th and 15th Aldermanic Districts.
Analysis
This resolution deems certain City-owned, School-Purpose Property to be underutilized pursuant to Section 304-49-6, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, and directs the Department of City Development to market the properties.
Body
Whereas, Section 304-49-6, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, established the process for determining that City-owned, School-Purpose Property is underutilized and it also established a process for marketing and selling such properties; and
Whereas, The Department of City Development (“DCD”) has reviewed the list of vacant, City-owned, School-Purpose Properties that are not being used by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors for its purposes; and
Whereas, DCD determined that the properties listed below and summarized on a MPS Surplus and Marketing Report, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File, have been vacant for more than 15 consecutive months and are suitable for sale:
Former Garfield School at 2215 North 4th Street
Former Fifth Street School/Isaac Coggs Health Center at 2770 North 5th Street
Former Centro del Nino Head Start Building at 500 East Center Street
Former School of Entrepreneurship at 6914 West Appleton Avenue
Former 37th Street Elementary School at 1715 North 37th Street
Former Lee Elementary School at 921 West Meinecke Street
Unused portion of Westside Academy II (former St. Thomas Aquinas Church) at 1960 North 36th Street
; and
Whereas, Upon the Common Council determining that the identified School-Purpose Properties are underutilized, DCD is directed to draft listing materials and to undertake fair and open marketing of the properties on DCD’s website; and
