Title
Resolution approving sites for federally funded electric vehicle charging stations.
Analysis
The Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO) is managing a $14.96 million grant from the United States Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure program to develop a public electric vehicle charging network. The City currently has access only to the engineering and planning funds in the grant, with the federal government to release construction funds after the City conducts National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis on selected sites. This resolution approves the location of the second batch of sites that will undergo NEPA analysis and be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration for construction approval.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee’s Climate and Equity Plan, adopted on June 20, 2023, identifies investment in a public electric vehicle charging network as a core strategy to spur electric vehicle adoption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and local air pollution; and
Whereas, Common Council File Number 241213, adopted on December 17, 2024 authorized the acceptance of a $14.96 million federal Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant from the US Department of Transportation to, in part, conduct engineering and environmental review of 53 sites for electric vehicle charging stations; and
Whereas, The Common Council adopted File Number 250374 in June, 2024, approving the first 13 proposed sites for electric vehicle charging stations for engineering and environmental review; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Environmental Collaboration Office may submit the sites contained in Exhibit A to the federal government for construction after the City obtains the necessary NEPA approvals; and be it
