Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to install a new traffic control signal at the intersection of East Erie Street and North Water Street with funding from the Department of Public Works capital fund at an estimated cost of $75,000.

Body
Whereas, Residential and commercial development has increased pedestrian traffic demand to cross North Water Street at East Erie Street; and

Whereas, The intersection of North Water Street and East Erie Street is near large pedestrian generators including a large parking structure, the Milwaukee River Walk, and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design; and

Whereas, Prior traffic and other changes to improve the availability of safe pedestrian crossing gaps in vehicular traffic and increase pedestrian safety have been implemented at the intersection of North Water Street and East Erie Street and have been inadequate to accommodate current demand; and

Whereas, The installation of a traffic control signal at the intersection of East Erie Street and North Water Street will provide for a better exchange of right-of-way to allow for the safe crossing of pedestrians across North Water Street at East Erie Street; and

Whereas, The estimated cost of the installation of a traffic control signal is $75,000, and is included in the Department of Public Works traffic signal capital fund approved under Common Council File Number 121057; and

Whereas, The installation of a traffic control signal at East Erie Street and North Water Street is scheduled for spring/summer 2013; now, therefore, be it
