Title

Analysis
This resolution approves the expenditure of $15,000 from the Economic Development Committee Fund as a contribution to the Community Market Development Institute, a non-profit organization contracted to provide technical assistance to community-based groups located in Milwaukee, for a room and display area at the International Council of Shopping Centers Convention, to be held in Las Vegas, May 20-23, 2001.
Body
Whereas, The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Convention will be held in Las Vegas, May 20-23, 2001; and

Whereas, The Community Marketplace Development Institute (CMDI), a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization provided technical assistance to community-based groups in Milwaukee for the 2000 ICSC Convention; and

Whereas, CMDI is under contract with the Community Block Grant Administration to provide technical assistance to community-based groups located in Milwaukee; and

Whereas, The Economic Development Committee authorized the expenditure of $5,000 in 2000 for such assistance, with additional money expended by the Department of City Development; and

Whereas, Efforts by CMDI at last year's ICSC Convention led to creation of 3 community-based projects,with estimated project costs of almost $16 million and the creation of 416 new jobs; and

Whereas, This year's authorization of $15,000 will provide City of Milwaukee groups with:
* Room and display space in the CMDI booth on the convention floor.
* Consultation with CMDI experts on the creation of industry-specific marketing materials for retail sites in Milwaukee.
