Title:
Resolution relative to acceptance of a subgrant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Children's Justice Act to allow a Police Department member to attend a conference on Child and Family Maltreatment (Police Department).

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept a 2004 subgrant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Children's Justice Act in the amount of $1,000 to be used for expenses related to one Police Department employee to attend a conference on Child and Family Maltreatment, which will enhance the Department's ability to respond, investigate, and deter incidents of family and child abuse. If conference - related expenses are less than $1,000, the balance is to be contributed to the Milwaukee County Child Abuse Review Team.

Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds, totaling $1,000, from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Children's Justice Act to fund the expenses related to one Police Department employee to attend a conference on Child and Family Maltreatment; and

Whereas, If conference related expenses are less than $1,000, the balance is to be contributed to the Milwaukee County Child Abuse Review Team to be used for relevant needs of the Team to improve the investigation and prosecution of child abuse and neglect in Milwaukee County; and

Whereas, Acceptance of this subgrant will enhance the Department's ability to respond, investigate, and deter incidents of family and child abuse; and

Whereas, the Wisconsin Department of Justice received funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Federal CFDA number 93.643, Children's Justice Act; and

Whereas, The operation of this subgrant from 1/26/04 to 1/30/04 would cost $1,474, of which $474 (47%) would be provided by the city and $1,000 (53%) would be provided by the grantor; now, theref...
