Title:
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a 2007 COPS Secure Our Schools Grant, and authorizing a subgrant to Milwaukee Public Schools for security measures in public schools.

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept, and fund a 2007 COPS Secure Our Schools Grant from the United States Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services in the amount of $326,300. The purpose of this grant is to improve safety in and around schools.

Body :
Whereas, Under CFDA #16.710, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the United States Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services for a 2007 COPS Secure Our Schools Grant; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 9/01/2007 to 8/31/2009 would cost $652,600 of which $326,300 (50%) would be provided by the grantor and subgranted by the City of Milwaukee to Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) and $326,300 (50%) would be provided by MPS; and

Whereas, MPS has budgeted and will make expenditures that are eligible and appropriate as the local match; and

Whereas, MPS and the City of Milwaukee will execute a memorandum of understanding governing the subgrant of funds from the City of Milwaukee to MPS; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee, by subgranting 100% of these grant funds to MPS will be helping to improve the safety and security of Milwaukee’s youth; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the U.S. Department of Justice is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 030712; and, be it
