Resolution authorizing the addition of Juneteenth as an additional paid holiday by Travaux, Inc.

Body
WHEREAS, on September 22, 1862, history dictates, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation informing the Confederate States that he would declare enslaved people “forever free”, paving the way for the later passing of the 13th Amendment in 1865, which formally abolished slavery in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, on June 19, 1865, several months after the end of the Civil War, Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news that the Civil War had ended and that the formerly enslaved citizens were free, and those citizens rejoiced in the streets in celebration; and
WHEREAS, June 19th (Juneteenth) is and has been a day to celebrate the end of slavery and the continuing advancement of equality and justice in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, Juneteenth has now been recognized as a federal holiday and has been approved by the City of Milwaukee as a paid holiday for the City of Milwaukee employees in September 2022; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the Directors of Travaux, Inc. that Travaux’s Employee Handbook be modified to add Juneteenth to the list of paid holidays of Travaux employees; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the President authorize the appropriate staff to take all action necessary to implement this for all current and future staff.
