Substitute resolution declaring ten tax-deed vacant lots located on the north side of West Center Street between North 15th and North 16th Streets surplus and authorizing conveyance of same to the Academy of Learning and Leadership, or Assigns, for development of a Charter School in cooperation with LaVarnway Boys and Girls Club, in the 17th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This substitute resolution will result in the sale of 10 vacant, tax-deed lots for assemblage and construction of a Charter School.
Body
Whereas, A Charter School application was approved on January 22, 2003 for the Academy of Learning and Leadership (“Academy”); and
Whereas, The Academy is cooperating with LaVarnway Boys and Girls Club to develop the Charter School, the first phase of which contemplates remodeling of Club facilities and the expansion of it to include classroom and administrative space; and
Whereas, The Academy has offered to purchase the following City-owned vacant lots for $1.00 each to develop accessory playground and parking uses and construct buildings in 2 subsequent phases for classroom use:
