Body
Whereas, The Estate of Thomas William Jackson and Verda Jackson filed a lawsuit against the City of Milwaukee, Chief Arthur Jones and eight individually-named Milwaukee police officers, seeking an unspecified amount of damages as a result of the sudden death of Thomas Jackson, which occurred while he was in police custody, on or about April 16, 1997; and
Whereas, The parties have agreed to a total settlement amount of $257,500.00; and
Whereas, The City Attorney recommends and the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee deems it expeditious and just to pay this judgment; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the proper City officers be and are hereby authorized and directed to issue a City check in the amount of $257,500.00, payable to the order of Cannon and Dunphy, S.C. and Verda Jackson, individually, and as Special Administrator of the Estate of Thomas William Jackson, in full and final resolution of this claim, said amount to be charged to the Damages and Claims Fund, Account No. 636506 001 1490 2631 S118-2002.
