Title
Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to issue a permit allowing excavation in the street pavement of North Hawley Road approximately 320 feet north of the West Wells Street intersection where the pavement is less than three years old.

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to issue an excavation permit allowing the Badger Home for the Blind to extend a water lateral across North Hawley Road to connect to an existing water main. The lateral connection will provide water service to a new residential building being constructed by the Badger Home as part of its campus improvement program. The pavement of North Hawley where the road would be cut is less than three years old and as a result, Common Council approval of the pavement cut is required.

Body
Whereas, The Badger Home for the Blind is making improvements to its campus located at 912 North Hawley Road; and

Whereas, One of the improvements is a new residential building for which water service must be provided; and

Whereas, Various alternatives for the provision of water service were evaluated with both the City of Milwaukee Water Works and the developer concluding that the most efficient alternative would be to extend a new lateral across North Hawley Road to an existing water main located on the west side of the street; and

Whereas, This connection will require cutting into pavement in North Hawley Road that is less than three years old and still under warranty; and

Whereas, The three year warranty on North Hawley Road expires in August of 2002; and

Whereas, Waiting until August of this year to make the water connection would delay opening of the new facility and cause significant inconvenience for the Badger Home and its clientele; now, therefore, be it
