Analysis
This resolution supports the State of Wisconsin’s proclamation of September 2011 as Call to Character Month and calls upon all city residents to affirm the necessity of honorable character for the advancement and well-being of Milwaukee as well as that of the state of Wisconsin.
Body
Whereas, An economically viable and socially secure society is based upon many things, including the honorable character of its citizens; and
Whereas, Residents of Milwaukee have long recognized the need to commit themselves to making virtue - the embodiment of core ethical values in the many different paths of their lives - the fundamental principle and standard in everything they do; and
Whereas, This commitment to character should be supported across Milwaukee by businesses, governments, schools, industries, the trades and the entire community as the city strives to build a better future for succeeding generations through integrity, honesty, fairness, responsibility and respect for ourselves and others - values shared by all Americans; and
Whereas, Elementary and secondary schools are often venues for various people to find encouragement and support to instill those character values through students, parents, teachers and administrators who are proactively committed to working together to encourage and reward young people for their efforts to grow in character; and
Whereas, The motto for Wisconsin is “Forward” - a call to character for all citizens to remember how virtue has been the basis for all of the positive accomplishments we have made; and
Whereas, Governor Scott Walker proclaimed September 2011 as Call to Character Month in Wisconsin; now, therefore; be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council supports the State of Wisco...
