- Analysis -

This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Division to accept up to $50,000 in private contributions of play equipment and material for improvements to the Cass Street Playground.


BODY:
Whereas, The Cass Street Playground has obsolete play equipment dating from 1983; and

Whereas, The Cass Street Park Advisory Committee in the vicinity of the Cass Street Playground is coordinating an effort to revitalize the neighborhood surrounding the playground and views the upgrading of the Cass Street Playground in 1998 as consistent with their neighborhood revitalization efforts and essential to improving the quality of life in the area; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Division estimates the total cost of upgrading the Cass Street Playground, including removal of the existing children's play equipment, installation of new play structures, swings, benches, fence, and additional landscaped area to be $150,000; and

Whereas, The Cass Street Park Advisory Committee has committed to raising $50,000 towards the playground improvements and is aware of individuals and organizations who are interested in donating funds for the upgrading of the Cass Street Playground; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Division, in it's 1998 Recreational Facilities Capital Improvement Program has budgeted $50,000 for this project; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Division has received approval for $48,425 in Community Development Block Grant funds for this project; and

Whereas, Presently, the Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Division is not authorized to accept private contribution...
