Body
Whereas, Operated by Employ Milwaukee, the recently-created CAMP Rise program provides enrichment and support to Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) students aged 10 to 13 with preventive and proactive early intervention services; and
Whereas, The CAMP Rise program offers work-based learning and activities that are structured and staffed by culturally-relatable young adults and senior members of the community; and
Whereas, Program participants receive stipends for each day of attendance to encourage consistent participation and to boost economic resources for youth and their families; and
Whereas, The CAMP Rise program served 200 boys in the pilot year of 2022 and plans to serve 200 boys as well as 50 girls in 2023; and
Whereas, A total of $622,286.29 remains owed by MPS to the City of Milwaukee from MPS’s discontinued School Resource Officer and Truancy, Abatement and Burglary Suppression (TABS) programs; and
Whereas, These funds could be transferred to the Camp RISE program for the direct benefit of participating students; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper City officials are authorized to accept, deposit and expend $622,286.29 in funds owed by Milwaukee Public Schools to the City of Milwaukee from MPS’s discontinued School Resource Officer and Truancy, Abatement and Burglary Suppression (TABS) programs to fund Employ Milwaukee’s Camp RISE program.
