Resolution relative to the acceptance and funding of a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources grant to support public information and education projects related to storm water management.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure Services Division to accept and fund an Urban Nonpoint Source and Storm Water Management Planning Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The grant is for the design of a website dedicated to the City's storm water management program, the operation of a storm water pollution prevention hotline, and the development of storm water management information and education materials and modules.
Body
Whereas, Under the terms of Section 144.25 of the Wisconsin Statues and Chapter NR 120 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code, the City of Milwaukee is eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) for the Urban Nonpoint Source and Storm Water Management Grant Program; and

Whereas, Chapter NR 216 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code requires the City of Milwaukee to maintain a Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) municipal storm water permit from the WDNR; and

Whereas, Part E, Item 9 of the City's current municipal storm water permit (WPDES Number WI-S049018-2) requires the continued implementation of a storm water management information and education program to increase public awareness of storm water pollution issues and provide practical solutions; and

Whereas, The development of a website dedicated to the City's storm water management program, the operation of a storm water pollution prevention hotline, and the development of storm water management information and education materials and modules (the Projects) are expected to address a part of the information and education program requirements of said permit; and
