This resolution authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to, by emergency contract and by utilizing City forces to perform emergency repairs to the Wells Street Vertical Lift Bridge. This resolution also authorizes the transfer of $300,000 from the Major Bridge Program Capital Accounts - Infrastructure Services Division to a Capital Project Subaccount.
 
 
BODY:
Whereas, Emergency repairs are required to allow the Wells Street Vertical Lift Bridge to be operated; and
 
Whereas, The Wells Street Vertical Lift Bridge is an important link in the transportation and navigation system; and
 
Whereas, The Milwaukee River at Wells Street is a navigable waterway; and
 
Whereas, United States Coast Guard Regulations require access be provided for navigational traffic; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to repair the Wells Street Vertical Lift Bridge by emergency City contract and by City forces, whichever is most advantageous, to perform a particular portion of the work, and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is hereby authorized and directed to create the appropriate sub-accounts for the repair of the Wells Street Vertical Lift Bridge and to transfer such funds that are available as follows:
