Analysis
This resolution will result in the sale of a surplus, City-owned, vacant lot and the adjoining vacated right-of-way.
Body
Whereas, By adoption of File No. 030239 on September 23, 2003, the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee approved the vacation of the portion of North Hopkins Street that separates a City-owned vacant lot at 4301 West Mill Road and the property owned by the Eisenhower Center, Inc., at 6359 North Hopkins Street; and

Whereas, The street vacation was requested and paid for by the Eisenhower Center, Inc., which owns and operates a non-profit, sheltered workshop for developmentally disabled persons at 4425 West Woolworth Avenue and uses a portion of the property at 6359 North Hopkins Streets for parking and green space; and

Whereas, The vacated street may have reverted to City ownership after vacation; and

Whereas, Eisenhower Center, Inc., has offered to purchase the City-owned vacated right-of-way and the vacant lot at 4301 West Mill Road for $1.00 to incorporate the lot with its adjacent land, landscape the area to improve its appearance and hold the site for possible expansion of its program; and

Whereas, The Department of City Development (“DCD”) recommends acceptance of this offer since the Eisenhower Center incurred the full cost of the street vacation and will improve the appearance of the intersection; and

Whereas, The City Plan Commission has determined that the lot and the vacated right-of-way are surplus to municipal needs; now, therefore, be it
