Title
Substitute resolution approving a Citywide Americans with Disability Act Policy.
Analysis
This resolution approves a Citywide Americans with Disabilities Act Policy prepared by the Department of Employe Relations, and authorizes and directs the department to implement this policy.
Body
Whereas, The United States Congress enacted the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA") on July 26, 1990, to provide comprehensive civil rights protection to individuals with disabilities in the areas of employment, public accommodations, state and local government services and programs and telecommunications; and
 
Whereas, In compliance with the ADA, the Department of Employe Relations has prepared a citywide policy to address employment-related ADA issues; and
 
Whereas, The City policy is designed (1) to inform employes of their rights in the workplace as provided by the ADA; (2) to inform supervisors, managers, department heads and personnel officers of the requirements of the ADA; and
 
(3) to ensure that the City of Milwaukee is in compliance with the ADA; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council approves the "City of Milwaukee ADA Policy", developed by the Department of Employe Relations, a copy of which is attached to this file; and authorizes and directs the Department of Employe Relations to implement this policy.
